    About Meal Village

    3 questions

Meal Village is a local prepared meal delivery service in the Chicago area. Our chefs cook fresh meals every morning in our Lisle, Illinois kitchen and our own drivers deliver them across Chicago and the suburbs. The meals arrive fully cooked, so you heat one for 2 to 3 minutes and eat. There is no subscription, no minimum order and no contract.

Ready to eat. Every meal arrives fully cooked with heating instructions printed on the container, and most take 2 to 3 minutes in the microwave or 10 to 15 minutes in a 350°F oven. Salads, juices and some desserts need no heating at all.

Local. We cook in one kitchen in Lisle, Illinois, employ our own chefs and our own drivers, and deliver only in Chicago and the surrounding suburbs. When you call, you reach someone in Illinois.

    02

    How we compare

    1 question

No. Meal kits ship raw ingredients and a recipe, and you still spend 30 to 60 minutes cooking. Meal Village ships the finished meal, so you heat it for a few minutes and eat.

    03

    Delivery area

    3 questions

Meal Village delivers to more than 120 ZIP codes across Chicago and the surrounding suburbs. Please visit our delivery areas page to check all areas where we deliver.

Please visit our delivery areas page and enter your zip code to check if we deliver to your address.

Yes, if your office is in our delivery area. Just enter the work address at checkout. Workplaces can also set up a free delivery hub, a single drop-off point where staff collect their own meals on the way home.

    04

    Prices and fees

    5 questions

No. Creating a Meal Village account is free, and there is no membership fee, subscription fee, registration fee or minimum spend. You pay for the food you order plus the delivery fee for your ZIP code.

No. Your total is the meals you chose, one delivery fee for each delivery day, and tax. There is no service charge, packaging fee, membership fee or mandatory tip, and everything is itemised at checkout before you pay.

No. You can order a single Meal Village meal, and many customers do exactly that for their first order.

Yes, about 15% less. Every item has an advance price and a same-day price, and ordering at least one day ahead gets you the advance price automatically, with no code needed. Ordering early also means popular dishes have not sold out.

When you place the order, once, for that order. There is no recurring charge and no automatic reorder.

    05

    Discounts, gift cards and referrals

    4 questions

Yes. When someone new places their first order using your referral code, you both get $10. They get $10 off their first order, and a $10 credit reaches your account.

Yes. If you have spent at least $50 with Meal Village in the last 30 days, you can send a $30 meal gift once a month. The recipient must be new to Meal Village and use it on their first order, and it cannot be combined with the $20 first-order discount.

Yes. Meal Village e-gift cards arrive by email for immediate use, are redeemed by entering the code at checkout, work across multiple orders, and never expire. They also work on Daily Rasoi, our Indian cuisine service.

Yes. We print a monthly paper menu, and we can post it, email it, or add it to an upcoming delivery. Call (888) 610-2232 to get the printed menu.

    06

    Subscription and cancelling

    3 questions

No. Meal Village has no subscription, no membership, no plan and no contract. Each order is a one-off purchase, and you order only when you want food.

No. Meal Village only delivers meals you ordered for a specific date, and we charge your card once per order. If you order nothing next week, nothing arrives and nothing is charged.

Yes. Plenty of people order from Meal Village once, for a week of recovery after surgery, a busy stretch, or just to try it, and there is nothing to close down afterwards.

    07

    Menu and meal types

    8 questions

Meal Village offers various types of dishes such as comfort meals, soups, sides, ready-made bowls, breakfast, kids’ meals, plant-based meals, low sodium and low carb meals, soft foods, desserts, cold-pressed juices, pizza and family packs. Our library runs to over a thousand dishes, and the menu changes daily.

Yes. The full Meal Village menu is on mealvillage.com and in our iOS and Android apps, showing every day for the next seven days with a photo, description, price, ingredients and heating instructions for each dish. You can also have the daily menu emailed to you, or get a printed monthly menu in the post.

Daily, with weekly and monthly rotation on top. Popular dishes come back month to month, so you will see a favourite again, but you will not get the same week repeated back at you.

Yes. Meal Village family packs serve a family from one dish, such as chicken enchiladas or chicken parmesan, alongside our standard single-serving meals. We also do Thanksgiving and Christmas family dinners in season.

Yes, single servings are our standard. Every Meal Village meal is portioned for one person, which is why customers who live alone use us rather than a service built around feeding two or four.

Yes. Meal Village offers kids meals such as cheese ravioli with broccoli, BBQ chicken strips, beef tacos and macaroni and cheese, portioned and flavoured for children.

Yes, we offer Indian food through Daily Rasoi, our Indian cuisine service, with dal, roti, curries and regional dishes, cooked in the same Lisle kitchen with the same delivery and the same no-subscription approach.

We cook in small batches to keep the food fresh, so popular dishes do sell out, especially on the same day. Ordering a day or more ahead almost always gets you what you wanted, and it saves you about 15%.

    08

    Diets, allergies and nutrition

    4 questions

Yes. Low Sodium is a filterable category on the Meal Village menu with 30+ dishes, including a low sodium chicken noodle soup that is one of our best sellers overall. Each dish shows its exact sodium content on the nutrition tab.

Yes. Low Carb is a filterable Meal Village category with 30+ dishes, including lemon butter chicken, Italian sausage with peppers and zucchini and bruschetta chicken, each showing its full carbohydrate count.

Click any dish on mealvillage.com or in the app and the ingredients are listed underneath.

No artificial preservatives and no MSG. Meal Village meals are cooked from scratch each morning and delivered the same afternoon, so the food does not need the preservatives that frozen or shelf-stable meals do. Every ingredient is published.

    Ordering and cutoffs

    9 questions

12 noon. Order from Meal Village by 12:00 PM and your meals arrive that same afternoon. After noon, the order moves to the next delivery day.

Up to seven days. The full Meal Village menu is published a week ahead, so you can plan the whole week in one sitting, and ordering at least a day ahead saves you about 15% and means less has sold out.

Yes, if you order by 12 noon. We cook each morning and deliver the same afternoon, so a lunchtime order is dinner that evening. Same-day prices are about 15% higher than advance prices.

Yes. Pick a meal for each day from the seven-day Meal Village menu and place it all in one order. Each day’s meals arrive on that day, freshly cooked, at the advance price. If you would rather have fewer deliveries, order several meals from one day’s menu and refrigerate them.

Three ways: online at mealvillage.com or on the Meal Village app for iOS and Android. Both are available 24/7, so you can order any time of day. You can also order by phone on (888) 610-2232, Monday to Friday, 9 AM to 7 PM.

Yes. Call (888) 610-2232 between 9 AM and 7 PM, Monday to Friday, and a real person will read you the menu, take your order, apply any credit you have, and confirm your delivery time. We can also post you a printed monthly menu so you can choose from paper and ring it in.

Yes. The Meal Village app is on the Apple App Store and Google Play. You can see the full week’s menu with photos, prices, ingredients and nutrition, order, choose your delivery slot and pay.

Yes, and it is free to create, and it takes just your name, email, address and phone. It takes a minute and saves your details for next time. There is no membership fee and no subscription attached to it.

Yes. Save several addresses to one Meal Village account, such as home and office, or your own and a parent’s, and choose which one at checkout.

    Delivery and not being home

    4 questions

Choose ’Leave at the Door’ at checkout and the driver leaves your meals in a safe spot, following any instructions you add in the notes box. Meals arrive chilled in sealed containers, but there are no ice packs, so in warm weather either be home or leave a cooler out with a note for the driver.

Yes, there is a notes box at checkout. Use it for gate codes, which door to use, ’ring the bell rather than knock’, or ’leave it in the cooler by the step’. Our drivers are Meal Village employees running consistent routes, so instructions stick.

Yes. Meal Village emails your order confirmation and delivery timing, and we text or call about arrival and about any delay on the route. Drivers will also call if they cannot get in. Ask for a text on arrival in your delivery notes if you would like one.

Hub Delivery is free Meal Village delivery to a single central drop-off point, such as an office, a gym, or a residential building, where everyone collects their own order. We set these up with partner organizations at no charge, and each person gets a text when their bag arrives. Just have whoever runs your building or office call (888) 610-2232.

    11

    Freshness, storage and heating

    2 questions

100% Fresh, never frozen. Meal Village cooks every dish from scratch in our Lisle kitchen in the morning, chills it, and delivers it the same afternoon. The meals arrive cold, like something from your own fridge, in a paper bag with each meal in its own sealed container. There are no ice packs and no insulated boxes.

Microwave for 2 to 3 minutes, or transfer to an oven-safe dish and heat at 350°F for 10 to 15 minutes. Instructions for that specific dish are printed on the container. Remove any garnish or sauce cups before heating.

    12

    Portions and quality

    1 question

Each Meal Village meal is a generous single serving. Customers with smaller appetites often get two meals out of one container, and customers with hearty appetites tell us one is enough.

    13

    Ordering for someone else

    4 questions

Yes, and a large share of Meal Village orders are placed this way. Set up an account, save their address as the delivery address, and pay with your card. The meals go to them. You choose the dishes or they tell you what they want, and because there is no subscription you can order for one difficult week and simply stop.

Yes. Order on mealvillage.com or the app from anywhere, set their Chicago-area address as the delivery address, and pay with your own card. You get the confirmation and delivery notifications, so you know the food arrived.

Yes. A caregiver, home health aide, family member or building coordinator can place a Meal Village order for someone else, online, in the app or by phone. There is no authorisation process. Just use the recipient’s delivery address.

Yes. Meal Village works with senior living communities, building managers and activity coordinators, including free scheduled hub deliveries with a text to each resident on arrival. Call (888) 610-2232 or email support@mealvillage.com.
